Post 2: Television's Impact on Advertising

The development of television has had a major impact on advertising over the years. Television started off very small and was not very common in the households; nowadays, a television is found in almost every family’s home. It has developed in many ways, and is now the most common technology through which advertising is portrayed.

As well as in the households, televisions are also found in stores, restaurants, and even along the highway. As well as billboards, they are coming up with the idea of putting huge televisions along the highway playing various advertisements for drivers to view. When a family is watching a TV, generally half of the show time is for commercials while the other half is for the actual program. Some people get up and leave during the commercials, but most stay and watch simply because they don’t want to leave the couch. As they watch, they subconsciously memorize the commercials and it sinks into their brains. If a commercial or advertisement is good enough and draws in the audience’s attention, some people may go out to the store and purchase whatever item it is advertising. Television is not only used to portray advertisements, but is also used in the development of advertisements. While people are working on the advertisements, televisions help to show the ideas to the different customers and employees. Television also creates many different job opportunities. Since television has become an item in everyday life, there have been many more job opportunities available. They need more people not only inventing billboard and newspaper advertisements, but also actual video advertisements. They need cameramen to film the commercials, directors to direct the commercials, actors to act in the commercials, and designers and creators to think of ideas and actually design and plan out how it is going to happen. Technology is continuously changing over the years, and advertising is going to change with it.
